W/C 4th January

Happy New Year! Mrs Cryan's class have had a busy first week back!

In literacy this week we have focused on correctly punctuating a sentence using a capital letter and full stop. The children were given cards with adjectives, verbs and nouns on and had to create a sentence before writing it and adding the correct punctuation. Later in the week we started a new unit on fairy tales. On Friday we read Cinderella, the class had great fun retelling the story to their partner.

This week in maths we have been looking at time. We now all know o'clock and half past, whilst some children now know quarter past and quarter to. A few children moved onto reading time to the nearest 5 minutes. It is the expectation that children can read time to the nearest 5 minutes by the end of year 2, so please practice telling the time as much as possible at home. On Friday the class played 'just a minute' we learnt that there are 60 seconds in a minute and Mrs Cryan set us challenges to complete in a minute. We had to see how many times we could hop, write our name on a whiteboard, how long we could make a multi-link snake and how many times we could count in 2s to 20, it was great fun!

We have started a new topic this term, instead of Mrs Cryan telling everyone the topic she set a challenge for everyone to work out the new topic from clues. The children were given two pictures and asked to discuss what they knew about the people in the pictures. From this, the children decided on questions they would like to know to find out more about the individuals. Finally, the children were told the names of the people and had to work out the link between the two to find out what the new topic was! Eventually we worked out that our new topic is 'explorers' and the men in the pictures were Neil Armstrong and Christopher Columbus.

  1. I notice that it says Olivia (and Lilianna) are meant to have silver 120 stamp certificates but instead received the bronze 50 stamp one again?
