We have started a new unit in literacy on instructions. We started by looking at lots of different instructions and identifying the similarities. We learnt that these were the key features of instructions. All instructions have a you will need list or an ingredients list, a method, numbered instructions, pictures, use imperative verbs and time connectives. Perhaps you could ask your child what the key features are? We then used our knowledge of the key features to order a jumbled set of instructions. Later in the week, we focused on imperative verbs (bossy verbs) and learnt that most instructions start with an imperative verb or a time connective (conjunction). Next week we will write our own instructions on how to make a moon buggy!
This week in maths we have been looking at how to solve missing number operations as in 20- __ = 13 47- __ = 32 or 27+ __ = 36. We have been using our knowledge of number bonds and bead strings to help us. This is something we will continue to work on next week.
We have now all finished our moon buggies! They look fantastic and all so different! During the week we looked at the surface of the moon and tried to make a similar surface to test our moon buggies on. We were very careful when testing our moon buggies but still had to make a few repairs! On Friday we evaluated our moon buggies and thought about what worked well and what we would change if we made them again.
Well done to Amber who got her RED TED cap and Sky who is going to the tea party. There will be a RED TED T-shirt day on the last day of term!
Molly and Monty had a great time with Mikey and Liliana. They counted objects in groups of ten and both did lots of measuring! Molly and Monty have gone home with Lucy and Isaac this weekend.
We had a great time on Friday for Sport Relief, it was lovely to see so many people wearing their sports kit to help raise money. In the afternoon we all completed a fun run on the playground as the field was rather wet! The total so far is £220 with lots of money left to come from the sponsored swim, well done everyone!
