W/C 29th Februrary

This week in literacy we have continued to focus on limericks. We started the week looking at rhyming words and worked in partners to list words that rhymed with the names Pat, Sue, Ted and Ben. From this the children worked in groups to create a limerick. We focused on writing lines 1,2 and 5 first making sure they rhymed then we wrote lines 3 and 4. After that, we checked the syllables in each line. Mrs Cryan was very impressed with the end results and we thought they were all rather funny!

This week in maths we have focused on measure. We started the week measuring length using cm, we learnt that we needed to start measuring from 0cm not the start of the ruler. We now know that there are 10 mm in 1cm and that there are 100cm in a metre. On Monday, we were given a piece of playdough and had 30 seconds to roll the longest worm we could. From this we compared the length of the worms on our table and had to order them from shortest to longest. We then had to estimate and measure each worm. Later in the week we focused on accurately drawing given lengths and comparing measurements using < less than and > greater than signs.

On Friday we moved on to weighing using grams (g). We had a range of objects we had to hold in one hand and compare against a weight in the other hand to estimate the mass, before weighing the object. Some children then worked out the difference between their estimate and the actual weight! We will continue to work on this next week.

This week we have measured the width of our moon buggy so we could make axles for our wheels. After lots of careful and accurate measuring, we worked with an adult to saw the wood! Next week we will design the wheels and attach the wheels to the axle.

Maths Monkey
Molly and Monty had a fantastic time with Vittoria and Olivia. They measured and sawed wood, timed themselves brushing their teeth and checked it was time for bed! Molly and Monty have gone home with Daisy and Adam this weekend.

World Book Day
We had a brilliant day on Thursday and the children looked amazing! Lots of team points were earned and Darwin won the competition! Overall the class winners were Lucy and Olivia but it was a really difficult decision as so much effort had been put it in and everyone looked great!

The witch from room on the broom!

Cinderella before her fairy godmother came!

Next week
Just a reminder that it is our Reading CafĂ© on Wednesday at 2:00 we hope you can make it! We also have special visitors in school on Wednesday who will be teaching us skateboarding skills!
