W/C 18th April

This week in maths we have focused on 2d shapes. We started the week by solving shape problems such as; 'I'm thinking of a shape, it has 2 pairs of equal sides and 4 corners, what shape is it? Following this, later in the week we focused on lines of symmetry. We had to complete symmetrical patterns and find the lines of symmetry in shapes, Mrs Cryan was very impressed with how hard everyone worked and we all enjoyed using mirrors!

At the end of the week we focused on 3D shapes. Nearly all of us remembered the names of different 3D shapes and that the property words were; faces, edges and vertices. Again the children had to work out the name of the shape based on its properties.

This week in literacy we have focused on the difference between fiction and non-fiction. We learnt that non-fiction can be a variety of texts but we focused on information texts. From this the children read a selection of dinosaur non-fiction books to pick out the key features. They found that most have; a contents page, glossary, index, labelled diagrams and lots of facts! We ended the week looking at dinosaur information cards and played dinosaur top trumps before using the ipads to research dinosaurs to make our own top trump cards.

Well done to Max and Daisy who will be going to the RED TED tea party!

This week in topic the children had to design their own collage dinosaur! We had a variety of different dinosaurs and they have made a brilliant display!

We ventured up to the pond to sketch! We all concentrated really well and carefully looked at the object we had chosen to sketch.

Maths Monkey
Molly and Monty had a great time with Vesta and Phoebe, they learnt lots of maths. They have gone home with Samuel and Max this weekend.

Our dinosaur role play is now open and the children have been doing lots of digging in their free choice time! They have been great Paleontologists!
