This week in Literacy we completed our dinosaur fact cards and wrote a dinosaur adventure story! The children were set a challenge to include a question, command, statement, exclamation, contractions, commas in lists and correctly punctuated sentences using full stops and capital letters! We all tried really hard and some managed to include everything!
This week in maths we have revisited arrays! We learnt that 7x2 means 7 lots of 2. Many of us used practical apparatus to show arrays. We know that multiplication can be done in any order (commutative) therefore if we had 5x9 we could do 9 lots of 5 instead as we are all stronger on our 5 times tables than our 9! Please can all Year 2s continue to practice their 2,5,10 and 3 times tables at home as much as possible.
This week in topic we have looked at classifying dinosaurs based on what they eat just from looking at their appearance! We learnt that there were herbivores and carnivores. The characteristics for both dinosaurs needed to be different. Carnivores needed sharp teeth to eat meat with, whilst herbivores needed large flat teeth to strip leaves off of trees. Some herbivores also has spikes or plates to help protect itself. Herbivores were four legged and carnivores were 2 legged (they used their tail for balance!) Mrs Cryan gave us different dinosaurs to sort based on our new knowledge.
We have designed dinosaur soft toys this week! We looked at a range of soft toys and designs before designing our own. We thought about the colour of the dinosaur and whether we wanted the stitching to match or stand out. We then thought about the pattern on the dinosaur, some went for stripes, spots and even hearts! Over the next few weeks the children will individually stitch their toy...! Lots of pictures to follow!
Well done to Carley-Mae who now has 170 stamps and will be going to the tea party.
Molly and Monty had a great time with Max and Samuel. They measured wood, weighed ingredients ( and Monty!) and practiced telling the time. Molly and Monty have gone home with Grace and Amos this weekend.
We have had great fun this week doing the Daily Mile! The children have enjoyed running, jogging and walking for 15 minutes every day. We are already seeing a big improvement! Please can all children have trainers or plimsolls in school to change into in school for the Daily Mile.
On Friday we went to The Nicholas Hammond Academy to take part in a fun run! The more laps they ran, the more stickers they received! After the Daily Mile, the children were well practiced! We have clocked up quite a few miles this week! Extra well done to James who got 15 stickers!
Well done to Olivia who won first prize for Mrs Cryan's class in the art competition and Vittoria who won 3rd prize for KS1. Lots of children entered which was fantastic and they have all earned team points!
