What a busy week! We have settled in well are in full flow with our lessons and learning!
This week in literacy we have been looking at 'The Tiger Who Came to Tea' by Judith Kerr. Mrs Cryan read us the story in her best reading voice and asked us to retell the story to our carpet partner. After this some of us worked in groups to order events in the story and talk about our favourite parts, whilst other groups had to retell the story through drama! Later on in the week we read other books written by Judith Kerr and compared their similarities and differences. We learnt what a setting was in a book and how to identify it, we then compared the settings of all the books.
We have also focused on nouns this week. We all know that a noun names things and is a person, place or object. We all had great fun playing the noun game. Perhaps your child could explain to you how to play the noun game at home.
We have focused on number and place value in maths. We started the week learning how to use a bead string to help us solve problems. We then ordered numbers from smallest to largest and worked out 1 more and 1 less than a given number. Some children moved on to placing numbers on a number line and saying what multiple of 10 they fell between. On Friday some of us focused on adding 10 to a number and spotted a pattern!
We have started our first unit on materials. Mrs Cryan asked us to create a mind map of facts we already know about materials. Many of us could name some materials and say what they are used to make.
Well done to all those children who have read every night and already have lots of RED TED stamps. The rewards for Year 2 are:
35 stamps- a RED TED book mark.
70 stamps - a gold certificate.
120 stamps - a red top.
170 stamps- RED TED tea party.
Library books are changed on a Friday, please make sure your child brings in their book to change.
