W/C 3rd October

This week in literacy the children have written their own version of ‘The Tiger Who Came to Tea.’ We had lots of interesting characters arrive at the door including a peacock, giraffe and a family of ducks!

This week in maths we have focused on adding and subtracting 10 from a 2 digit number. We spotted a pattern and noticed that the units number never changed just the tens. Later in the week, we looked at number bonds to 10 and 20. This is something the children need to know and would benefit from practising at home regularly.

We have continued to look at the ‘or’ sound spelt al and all. We focused on some tricky words; always, also and altogether. Perhaps you could continue to practise these at home. Later in the week we moved on to the soft c sound. The soft c sound is spelt with a c but sounds like a s as in city and cell.

In science this week we focused on the properties of materials. We had the property names given to use and had to match it with the definition before thinking of an object with that property. It was a little tricky but we all worked well as a group. You might like to ask you child what rigid, brittle, transparent, translucent and opaque mean.

Maths Monkey

Maisie and Mikey had a great time with Justin and Imogen this weekend. They went to the shops and bought items and worked out the change. This week they have gone home with Oliver and Gracie.
