This week in maths we have started a new unit on measure. We started the week by making as long a play dough snake as possible in 30 seconds. We then had to compare our snake to the rest of our groups and order them from shortest to largest. After this, we measured the snakes and used the measurement of the previous snake to estimate the length of the next snake. Later in the week, we learnt that there are 10mm in 1 cm and 100cm in 1metre. Most of us can now accurately measure to the nearest half cm and some of us can accurately measure to the nearest mm. We then moved on to mass and measuring the weight of objects using grams (g) this is something we will continue next week.
This week in literacy we have started a new unit on Julia Donaldson. We read ‘Charlie Cook’s Favourite Book’ and then we wrote our own page to go in the book. We had lots of great ideas!
Our new unit in science is living things and their habitat. We started the unit by looking at things that are living. We discussed living things and how we know they are living, we then looked at things that have never been living and things that once were living but are not anymore.
A massive well done to Abbie, Lewis, Lilly and Ella who now have their RED TED top and to Louie and Kallum who are now going to the tea party. Keep reading and asking your child questions about what they have read.
Maths monkey have gone home with Louie and Annabelle this weekend. We look forward to hearing all about their adventures.
It was lovely to see so many of you at the year 2 SATs meeting. Remember if you have any questions please come and see me.
